Love Makes Us Giants

Love makes us giants

Hearts gaze through magnified lens

Flaws are photoshopped

We’re tall, strong as steady pulse

Invincible…for a time

Cinderella’s Royal Shoes

Cinderella wed

Into royal fam’ly’s shoes

Her drudgery done

Dreamy fairy tale ending…

What happens when her feet swell?

The Museum Child

The old museum was home…nicer…it’s where I’d escape from home. A kind gray-haired couple—brother and sister—maintained it.  Aloysius told jokes, Delia served us lemonade and tea cakes in the back room on slow days, which were frequent.

Large glass cases and book shelves displayed pieces telling the state’s history.  It was much more interesting than school, to learn from Delia and Aloysius.  I was entranced by everything, but always returned to one item—a snow globe which held a beautiful mansion, replica of one where a famous governor had resided.  It was decorated for Christmas with lighted trees, wreath on door.

“Do you like it?” Delia asked.

“I wish I could live there,” I whispered.

That afternoon I fell asleep behind the war memorial.  When I woke up it was winter, and I’m sure Delia’s voice was calling, “Governor?  It’s dinnertime…where did the little one go off to?”

Remnants of Friday’s Child

Searching for remnants

“Friday’s child—loving, giving”

Something’s amiss…yet

God restores shattered heart shards

Crafting jeweled mosaic

Common modern version of “Monday’s Child”:

Monday’s child is fair of face
Tuesday’s child is full of grace
Wednesday’s child is full of woe
Thursday’s child has far to go,
Friday’s child is loving and giving,
Saturday’s child works hard for a living,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.
