Love Makes Us Giants

Love makes us giants

Hearts gaze through magnified lens

Flaws are photoshopped

We’re tall, strong as steady pulse

Invincible…for a time

Cinderella’s Royal Shoes

Cinderella wed

Into royal fam’ly’s shoes

Her drudgery done

Dreamy fairy tale ending…

What happens when her feet swell?

Remnants of Friday’s Child

Searching for remnants

“Friday’s child—loving, giving”

Something’s amiss…yet

God restores shattered heart shards

Crafting jeweled mosaic

Common modern version of “Monday’s Child”:

Monday’s child is fair of face
Tuesday’s child is full of grace
Wednesday’s child is full of woe
Thursday’s child has far to go,
Friday’s child is loving and giving,
Saturday’s child works hard for a living,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.

Odyssey of Grateful Nobody

https://wordofthedaychallenge.wordpress.com/2019/09/08/odyssey/

Oh, I’m shameless today, sneaking in another great ‘Sunday song’ which follows my poem for the prompt, “odyssey” 🙂

~†~

Spent decades trying

To be worthy of notice

Prove home critics wrong

Odyssey, to realize

Truth hidden long from heart’s eyes…

Wasn’t meant to be

Like those adored, idolized

Flawed vessel reveals

Flicker…undying faith in

Christ who called, set me apart…

Not this world’s glory

Recognition…naught compares

I have place secured

King awaits belov’d daughter

At His eternal table

“Nobody”, Casting Crowns

Why You ever chose me
Has always been a mystery
All my life, I’ve been told I belong
At the end of a line
With all the other Not-Quites
With all the Never-Get-It-Rights
But it turns out they are the ones You were looking for
All this time

‘Cause I’m just a nobody trying to tell everybody
All about Somebody who saved my soul
Ever since You rescued me, You gave my heart a song to sing
I’m living for the world to see nobody but Jesus
I’m living for the world to see nobody but Jesus

Moses had stage fright
And David brought a rock to a sword fight
You picked twelve outsiders nobody would’ve chosen
And You changed the world
Well, the moral of the story is
Everybody’s got a purpose
So when I hear that devil start talking to me, saying
“Who do you think you are?” I say

I’m just a nobody trying to tell everybody
All about Somebody who saved my soul
Ever since You rescued me, You gave my heart a song to sing
I’m living for the world to see nobody but Jesus
I’m living for the world to see nobody but Jesus

So let me go down, down, down in history
As another blood-bought faithful member of the family
And if they all forget my name, well, that’s fine with me
I’m living for the world to see nobody but Jesus

So let me go down, down, down in history (Go down in history)
As another blood-bought faithful member of the family
(It’s all I ever wanna be) And if they all forget my name, well, that’s fine with me
I’m living for the world to see nobody but Jesus, yeah

I’m just a nobody (Nobody)
Trying to tell everybody
All about Somebody
Who saved my soul (Oh, saved my, saved my soul)
Ever since You rescued me
You gave my heart a song to sing (You gave me a song to sing)
I’m living for the world to see
Nobody but Jesus (Nobody but You, Lord)
I’m living for the world to see nobody but Jesus
I’m living for the world to see nobody but Jesus

Infuriated, But All’s Well

https://ragtagcommunity.wordpress.com/2019/09/08/rdp-sunday-infuriate/

The ‘lecture’ goes on

Thunder’s incoherent words

Roll pause-less, rumbling

Sky lights up like movie screen

Flat white, not clenched finger-bolts

What, or who, has angered you?

Now you weep torrential tears

Thunder cracks a curse

Threatens punishment for all

Maybe mercy, small…

~~~
The thunder storm last night was unlike any I remember, ‘epic’ and kind of entertaining, as it caused no damage in my neighborhood…or so I thought.  We only lost power for a couple seconds, nothing to get steamed about—I was grateful, and surrendered to a much earlier bedtime than usual.
When I got up today, turned on the TV, I discovered my cable movie channels were coming through in Spanish.  I rebooted, checked the settings (English)…audio still Spanish; rebooted again, praying I wouldn’t have to call Comcast for assistance, as that’s high on the list of Things I Hate To Do.  I figured, since there were outages in areas beyond mine, the efforts at reestablishing service might have caused a temporary glitch affecting my audio…so I held my irritation at a reasonable level, for awhile.
I have great regard for Hispanic folks; hold nothing against the Spanish language—I studied it in high school for several years.  Although I could spell and memorize vocabulary, and conjugate verbs like nobody’s business, I never mastered conversational expertise.  I can ask, “where is the bathroom?”, say, “your hat is ugly”—but that’s pretty much my limit.
Like last night’s thunder, I was nearing infuriated…and called Comcast.  Thank the Lord, an agent came on the line “muy rapido” (quickly).  After listening to my attempts at a fix, he walked me through a suggestion and the issue was resolved with “mucho satisfacción”. 🙂
